Free Pattern for a baby poncho size 3 to 6 months old

Hi, Please find below a free pattern for a baby poncho. I have made several of these and they are very easy to make. I love to crochet and this is a pattern you can master in a few minutes.

Baby Poncho Crochet Pattern

This pattern is written in UK terms I use size 4.0 mm crochet hook DK yarn, around 100grams

Abbreviations

tr(treble) Yarn over hook, insert hook, yarn over, pull the loop back through the stitch (three loops on the hook), yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook (two loops on the hook), yarn over and pull through remaining two loops ( This is equivalent to the US double crochet stitch)

dc(double crochet) Insert hook, yarn over and pull through, yarn over and pull through all on hook. ( This is equivalent to a US single crochet)

sl(slip stitch)

sk(skip a stitch)

Foundation Row. Chain 80 then sl stitch into first chain ( make sure you keep the chains straight and not twisted

1st Row. Dc into next two chains, *sk next two chains, 3 x tr into next chain, chain 1, 3x tr into same stitch, sk two chains, 1 dc into next chain, chain 1, sk 1 chain, 1 dc into next chain,* Repeat from * to * until the last chain. Sl stitch into first dc to join the circle. Making sure your work is not twisted. You should have 10 clusters. Clusters are groups of 3tr,1chain,3tr

2nd Row. Chain 3, *1 tr into the same stitch you sl stitch into, 1 chain* , Repeat from * to *2 times,3 chains, **dc into the top of the first cluster (1 chain space),3 chains, 1 tr into the middle of the two dcs from the previous row, 1 chain, 1 tr into the same space as the first treble, ( this will make a v shape), 3 chains** Repeat from ** to ** 3 times, 1 dc into the top of the next cluster, *** 1 tr into the middle of the two dcs from the previous row 1 chain, 1 tr into the same dc space 1 chain, 1 tr into the same dc space, 1 chain, 1 tr into the same dc space, ***3 chains, 1 dc into top of the next cluster, 3 chains, 1 tr into the middle of the two dcs from the previous row, 1 chain, 1 tr into the same dc, (making a v stitch), 3 chains, *** Repeat from *** to *** 3 times, 1 dc into the top of the next cluster, 3 chains, sl stitch into the top of the 3 chains from the previous row

Row 3. 3 chains, 2 trs into the first 1 chain space from previous row, 1 chain, 3 trs into the same space, sk 1 space, 3 trs, 1 chain, 3 trs into the next space - This makes a corner.*1 dc into the loop of the dc from the previous row, 1 chain, 1 dc into the 3 chain space ( so this encloses the dc from the previous row 3 tr, 1 chain,3tr into the next v shape* Repeat from * to * 3 times, 1 dc into the loop from the dc from the previous row, 1 chain, 1 dc into the 3 chain space ( so this encloses the dc from the previous row, 3 trs into the first 1 chain space from previous row, 1 chain, 3 trs into the same space, sk 1 space, 3 trs, 1 chain, 3 trs into the next space - This makes a corner. **1 dc into the loop of the dc from the previous row, 1 chain, 1 dc into the 3 chain space ( so this encloses the dc from the previous row), 3 tr, 1 chain,3tr into the next v shape** Repeat from ** to ** 3 times, 1 dc into the loop of the dc from the previous row, 1 chain, 1 dc into the 3 chain space, sl stitch into the top of the 3 chains from the previous row.

Row 5. 1 chain, 3 trs into the next 1 chain space from the previous row, 1 chain, 3 tr into same space, sk the next space, 3 trs into the next 1 chain space, 1 chain, 3 tr into the same space, 1 dc into the loop of the dc from previous row, 1 chain, 1 dc into next 3 chain space, * 3 trs, 1 chain, 3 trs into the next v stitch, 1 dc in the loop of the dc from the previous row, 1 chain, 1 dc into the next 3 chain space,* repeat from * to * 4 times, 3trs , 1 chain, 3trs into the next 1 chain space,sk next space, 3 trs, 1 chain, 3 trs in to the next space, **1 dc into the loop of the dc from the previous row, 1 chain, 1 dc into the next 3 chain space, 3 trs, 1 chain, 3 trs into the next v space, ** repeat from ** to ** 4 times, 1 dc into the loop of the dc from the previous row,1 chain, 1 dc into the next 3 chains.Row 6 Sl stitch into the next 2 spaces, sp stitch into the 1 chains.

Row 6. Sl stitch into the next 2 spaces, sp stitch into the 1 chain space(middle of the next cluster), 1 dc into same space, 3 chains, 1 tr,1 chain, 1tr, 1 chain, 1tr,1 chain, 1 tr into the space between the two lots of clusters.3 chains, 1 dc into the top of the next cluster, *3 chains , 1 v shape into the two dcs from the previous row, 3 chains, 1 dc into the top of the next two clusters,* Repeat from * to * 5 times. 3 chains, 1 tr, 1 chain, 1 tr, 1 chain, 1 tr, 1 chain ,1 tr into the space between the two lots of clusters (corner space), 3 chain, 1 dc into the top of the next custer, ** 3 chains, v shape into the next 2 dcs from the previous row, 3 chains, 1 dc into the top of the next cluster,** Repeat from ** to ** 4 times,3 chains, 1 v shape into the next 2 dcs from the previous row, 3 chains, sl stitch into the next dc to join. Row 5 and 6 form the pattern. Continue these two rows until the required length. Please note you will have an extra cluster on each row. You can make an edging row or leave it as it is. The picture at the top is one I have made an edging on. 6 x Trs into v shape, 1 dc into dc from the previous row all the way around, At the corners make an extra 6 trs. This one is one I have finished on the 6th row, with no edging.
